During a recent sourcing trip to Bali, we discovered something truly exceptional on the quiet island of Nusa Lembongan. Stepping into a local boutique, a display of unique, striking necklaces immediately stood out. They were beautiful at first glance, but it was the profound story of craftsmanship behind them that demanded a closer look.
The Artisan Behind the Brand
Driven by the need to understand the origins of these pieces, we connected with Nadja, the German designer behind Mantra Bali. Having lived and worked in Bali for the past 16 years, Nadja has built a brand that beautifully bridges contemporary design with ancient local heritage.
Meeting on the coast of Uluwatu, she shared the slow, mindful process that defines her brand—a philosophy that perfectly aligns with our values at Story1961.
3 Hours, 2 Hands, 1 Intention
Every single necklace is an exercise in meticulous craftsmanship. Entirely handmade by local Balinese women, each piece takes approximately 3 to 4 hours of dedicated work to complete, utilizing sustainable materials like paper and cotton.
However, the true luxury of these pieces lies in their emotional depth. Rooted in Balinese Hindu culture and spirituality, each necklace is woven with a specific mantra, meant to bring a distinct energy and intention to whoever wears it:
